Batley is in the Metropolitan Borough of Kirklees, divided into East and West wards. The town is 11 km south-west of Leeds, 11 km south-east of Bradford and only 2km from Dewsbury. Batley is characterised by a large South Asian population that has been part of the town since the 1950s. It is also part of a unique EU transformation zone.
