An old market town in the Tameside area of Greater Manchester, Ashton-under-Lyne has a population of over 45,000 people. Road and rail infrastructure is good with the M60, Junction 23, being the main route into the town. The sole remaining station in the town maintains a regular service between Huddersfield and Manchester-Victoria, and onwards.
