We are seeking an experienced Technical Manager to join our Forest Row (East Sussex) based Head Office team. We are currently seeking an experienced Technical Manager to join our new homes development team. The role works closely with colleagues across Land, Design and Planning and Production to provide technical advice and liaison at all stages of the build programme - from initial concept to completion. The role is critical in ensuring that our homes meet the technical standards required and expected by our customers and stakeholders. In addition, it is to ensure that the necessary technical detail is available at all stages of the planning/design and build stages - ultimately ensuring that technical designs are available at the correct level of detail to commence construction. 

Key outline duties include: 

  • Land Surveying - appointing appropriate surveyors and providing advice to ensure appropriate mitigation can be put in place based on the survey recommendations
  • Soil Investigation Survey - appointing appropriate surveyors to undertake soil surveys to include condition, water drainage/flooding, groundwater monitoring, gas monitoring etc. You will then interpret the results and provide your recommendations to the relevant teams. 
  • Drainage - appointing a suitable surveyor and provide advice for the drainage of surface/foul water. Where necessary, use specialist contractors and liaise with the relevant authorities to ensure a comprehensive review is undertaken. 
  • Services - identify required services and obtain quotations for developments. 
  • Undertake all necessary adjustments to prepare development programme with the wider team. 
  • Production stage - Based on the development programme, prepare design programme to achieve substructure and superstructure issue dates. 
  • Appoint consultants and chair design briefing meetings to ensure that all teams have the necessary detail to commence their works. 
  • Prepare coordinated services 
  • Provide specialist technical advice throughout the build programme. 

This is a role with a wide span of responsibility and will see the postholder involved at all stages of the design and build process. As such, the role offers genuine variety and would suit an individual who is motivated by creative solutions and problem solving.  

Previous technical management experience gained within a residential development company is essential. The preferred candidate will have good knowledge of building regulations, engineering design, material specifications and related planning policy requirements. Above all, you will have excellent creative thinking ability/problem solving skills and an ability to coordinate information from a wide variety of people. The role is detail focused, but requires excellent collaboration skills. Rydon provides a great team ethos, and as such the postholder will be extremely well supported by other members of the team.
