Product Development Engineer

As focus on electrification and autonomous vehicles continues to increase, the value of delivering connectivity to customers becomes ever more important.

An exciting opportunity to has become available in the Commercial Vehicle team to work with driver information, in-vehicle entertainment, and vehicle connectivity to enable cutting edge features to Transit Customers.

You will be part of a development team delivering advanced features and functions for the connected cars of tomorrow, applying the latest technology in cloud environments, wireless communications and IT security (cybersecurity). You will be shaping the new automotive digital age around electrification, connectivity, vehicle-to-X, and much more. 

What You’ll do:

  • Interpretation and application of system specifications for features and functions related to driver information components (e.g. instrument cluster).
  • Coordination of system specifications with pre-development teams regarding regional requirements as well as feature/function owners.
  • Manage the creation and release of program-specific technical documentation including engineering specifications, component drawings, FMEA, quality history and test plans.
  • Application of given priorities regarding function, quality, cost, weight and timing in close collaboration with global “core” teams.
  • Confirmation that the design meets customer requirements, e.g. function, design, ergonomics and complies with legal and safety requirements.
  • Support cross-function activities to resolve vehicle level functional, package and process issues
  • Lead component release and Bill of Material management.
  • Lead supplier sourcing activities working with cross-function teams such as Finance, Program Management and Purchasing.
  • Support supplier technical design reviews and workshops.
  • Support regular internal design reviews and project status presentation to senior management.
  • Lead design validation, verification and signoff activities for driver information components and the associated sub-systems.
  • Support creation of work plans for project management and monitoring within program timeline and gateway deliverables.
  • Lead issue investigation, fault analysis, data gathering (e.g. CAN logs), documentation and resolution of all issues reported throughout the vehicle development cycle which involve driver information components.
  • Lead issue management, tracking and report out within Ford systems.
  • Coordination of cross carline software delivery into vehicle program timeline, following software release and signoff processes.
  • Lead software deployment and reflash activities onto development vehicles, test benches and breadboards.
  • Conduct vehicle level testing and signoff per global component requirement in line with the program timeline.
  • Analysis of test results considering specifications of interfacing functions.

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience in Product Development or Electrical Systems/Component Engineering
  • Project management skills with a thorough attention to detail
  • An effective communicator and presenter, with the ability to build and maintain teams
  • Experience of working within global teams
  • Ability to demonstrate use of initiative, perseverance and liaison skills
  • Full UK driving license - This position may require occasional traveling to Supplier, Ford development or Vehicle launch sites.
  • Hands-on experience in CAN tools (CANalyzer, CANoe, DET) would be a strong advantage
  • Good knowledge of Ford development process and tools (e.g. GPDS, FMA, eFDVS, software releasing, TCe, WERS, etc.) would be a strong advantage
  • Education is important to us; ideally, you’ll have a Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent in hand, but if that’s not the case (and you have experience/ skills you feel are relevant and beneficial to the role) we’re interested to hear from you
