Principal Engineering Geologist

Ian Farmer Associates, a member of RSK Group Ltd, is a geotechnical and geo-environmental site investigation company with offices covering the majority of the United Kingdom. It is further supported by a fully accredited UKAS laboratory and together with the Geosciences division of RSK, the company makes RSK Group one of the UK’s largest site investigation service providers.Ian Farmer Associates currently has an immediate need for an experienced Engineering Geologist based in Coventry.

Principal Engineering Geologist – Coventry

It is expected that as a Principal grade you will have a wider industry awareness and have very strong client interface capabilities. You will have a strong project financial focus, be self-motivated, exhibit a proactive approach, and work well within a team. A primary role will be developing contacts with new clients, overseeing work completed by third party contractors and building and supervising/mentoring a team of engineers at all levels.

Responsibilities include:

• Project Management of ground investigations;
• Supervision and mentoring of Senior Engineers, Engineers and Graduate Engineers;
• Overseeing the logging of soil and rock to BS5930 / Eurocode 7, including QC of logs for issue to Clients;
• Preparation and approval of H&S documentation;
• Preparation of geotechnical and geoenvironmental laboratory schedules;
• Preparation of Factual Reports, GIR Interpretative Reports and PIR Desk Studies;
• Liaising with both clients and subcontractors in relation to ongoing projects.
• Assist the Regional Manager with the commercial aspects of work, including estimating;

Person Specification

Ideally you will have the following attributes:

• At least a degree in Geology / Earth Sciences / Civil Engineering;
• Strong experience in the ground investigation industry;
• Good experience of soil and rock logging;
• Good report writing experience;
• Commercially and contractually aware;
• Good communication skills;
• A full UK driving licence;
• Willing to work on site on occasion;
• Be within a reasonable travelling distance of your office base or be prepared to re-locate.
