About the Service/Department

Working within Hestia’s crisis alternative operational team, the Café will provide a safe, welcoming and non-clinical environment to support people who are experiencing psychological distress. The primary aim is to provide an alternative community setting for people in a mental health crisis, who may otherwise attend A&E or access other urgent and emergency services.

About the role

Some of the main responsibilities of the role include:

  • To draw upon your own lived experience of mental health and recovery journey to empathetically assist service users to move forward positively from crisis
  • Provide formalised peer support and practical assistance to service users
  • Provide inspiration to individuals experiencing mental distress
  • To greet Crisis Café attendees and work with the team to establish their immediate and longer-term support needs
  • To co-produce small group and activity sessions to support the needs of service users

About you

  • The ability to rapidly form and sustain a trusting relationship with service users/carers and other peer support workers and professionals
  • Lived experience of the acute mental health care pathway (e.g. ED attendance, acute admissions etc.)
  • Knowledge of recovery tools, mental health and wellbeing support and services available in the local area
  • Able to demonstrate a general understanding of mental health issues with a positive non-judgemental approach towards individuals in crisis with mental health support needs
