Every month, Culture Trip attracts millions of visitors to its site; app downloads have leapt to almost 3 million; social followers have increased to more than 8 million, and our videos have been viewed more than 2 billion times. 

The role
We’re growing our selection of content around marine activities, including sailing and yachting, so we’re looking for a creative and driven Commissioning Editor to create compelling stories and campaigns that attract curious travellers, inspiring them to book with Culture Trip. Plugged in to the trends influencing our experience-hungry audience, you’ll produce, edit and commission written content designed to match user needs with our commercial objectives.
You should be a confident and extremely diligent writer and editor with the demonstrated ability to commission commercial content. As a self-starter with a can-do attitude and a passion for all things travel and culture, you should have a desire to make a real impact on how millions of young (and young-at-heart) travellers consume and engage with bookable content. You must have a high degree of integrity and personal responsibility, and be an enthusiastic and collaborative team player. You will relish the challenge of constantly adapting content strategies to respond to global events and emergent travel industry trends.

Key Responsibilities

  • Commission and edit a wide range of articles designed to drive bookings on our sea experiences pages and help our audience discover places they’ll love around the world
  • Recruit and build a network of freelance travel writers around the globe
  • Ensure deadlines are met and editorial standards are upheld in both self-produced and commissioned content
  • Work with the wider in-house content team to produce high-quality content and campaigns
  • Work alongside our copy editors to ensure all content is published free of mistakes and adheres to our Editorial Guidelines, Style and Image Guides
  • Write content for a variety of Culture Trip channels, including our website, newsletters and social media, designed to drive traffic and conversions
  • Collaborate with the Content, Sales, Marketing, SEO and Data teams on articles pertaining to specific interests and genres
  • Manage the curation of articles on our website and app to maximise commercial impact
  • Proactively suggest and lead initiatives designed to increase the quality, effectiveness and easy of production of our content
  • Develop and deliver content plans and campaigns for key trading events throughout the year
  • Develop ways of maximising the value of our bookable content and effectively merchandising it both on site and off site via our social channels

Skills Knowledge and Expertise

  • Experience in writing and editing in a commercial content environment
  • Experience in commissioning content to freelance writers
  • Knowledge and experience of content curation and journalism within culture and travel is an absolute must
  • Knowledge and experience of sailing, yachting and other marine activities is desirable
  • A background in or a strong understanding of eCommerce content
  • Excellent organisational and people skills are essential to the role
  • Exceptionally strong in editorial, with an eye for compelling stories covering a wide array of locations and topics
  • Exceptionally strong editing skills with an eye for what makes a great story and how to engage readers with excellent copy
  • Strong understanding of the differences between social media and search engine optimised content
  • Aptitude for web analytics is desirable, including experience with Google Analytics or other related software
  • Familiarity with WordPress is essential

The health and safety of our employees is of the utmost importance to us. Therefore, we are following local government guidelines which means that we encourage our employees to work from home - there is no expectation that they should come to the office at this time.
