North Middlesex University Hospital is one of London’s busiest acute hospitals, serving more than 350,000 people living in Enfield and Haringey and the surrounding areas, including Barnet and Waltham Forest.

We are an integrated provider with a full range of adult, elderly and children's services across medical and surgical disciplines including community 0-19 yr old services in Enfield. Our specialist services include stroke, HIV/AIDS, cardiology, haematology, diabetes, fertility and orthopaedics. Our sickle cell and thalassaemia department is nationally recognised as a leading centre for these diseases. Every day, on average, we see 500 patients in A&E; 15 babies are born in our maternity unit; about 450 inpatients are cared for on our wards; about 50 patients have major or minor surgery in one of our 10 operating theatres; and about 800 people attend our outpatients clinics.

At North Middlesex University Hospital, you’ll find a team that truly believes in living our values in everything we do. We are caring, we are fair and we are open.

We are seeking to appoint a Legal Services Facilitator within our Risk & Governance department to continue the improvement work being undertaken by the Trust. This is a key role providing support to the inquest and claims management service to ensure the smooth running of the Trust’s busy Legal Services Department.

Duties of the role will include;

  • Procure reports, statements and comments on allegations, and conduct enquiries to ascertain information relevant to claims and inquests.
  • Maintaining the existing Datix database of inquests to ensure it is fully up to date at any given time, ensuring retention of a back up copy at all times.
  • Oversee and manage the transition of physical file documentation to digital formats that will allow the eventual administration of a paper free system
  • Ensure that deadlines imposed by NHS Resolution, the courts and coroner’s office are adhered to, paying close attention to detail.
  • Assist the HoLS in the preparation of periodic high quality reports and submissions, showing claims and inquests data analysis in both written and graphic form, for the Trust Board, its Committees, Divisions and Care Groups as directed. This will include reporting on numbers of claims and inquests, thematic reviews, and analysis of the identification, dissemination and embedding of learning from claims and inquests. The postholder will be expected to prioritise their workload, within agreed deadlines for regular data processing.
  • Support the Head of Legal Services and Deputy Head of Legal Services at meetings both internal and external, and at court as required.
  • Evaluate and collate the lessons to be learnt from claims and inquests.
  • Respond to enquiries from a variety of internal and external sources.
  • Produce reports for various internal and external audiences. This is a role where a great deal of autonomous working is required with minimal supervision. There will also be a requirement to work as part of a team, to ensure the objectives of the Legal Services and Quality Governance departments are achieved.

The post-holder will have an understanding of the service requirements and be able to work to tight timescales within an environment of conflicting workload demands.
