Position summary

This is a leadership position and a member of the International Steering Team. The Head of the legal department in the international reports directly to both the global Chief Legal Officer and the Senior Vice President, International. 

This leadership role interfaces with all functional leads within Amicus supporting the International business, working in especially close partnership with the Heads of International Compliance, Medical Affairs, Regulatory, Global Drug, Safety, Quality, HR and Market Access, as well as the Commercial Regional Vice Presidents and Country/General Managers.  Expected to contribute to the Company’s success by supporting the corporate governance of Amicus’ international Affiliates, contract drafting and review, review of commercial and medical programs, business development and day-to-day legal support and advice across multiple countries.

Key responsibilities

Support all expertise areas through timely, high quality and practical legal counsel
Assist in the establishment and maintenance of Amicus’s ex-US corporate structure, establish foreign entities, support related tax, regulatory and commercial planning
Advise on legal issues of corporate governance and regulatory compliance in the region
Deliver strategic risk/benefit analysis consistent with law, Amicus’s policies and code of business conduct
Review proposed business/legal arrangements, and review and draft contracts for multiple expertise areas
Provide direct support to HR and regional management on employment matters, including employment agreements, benefits, equity incentive plans, and multi-national employee relations issues
Provide support and advice on local laws governing clinical trials, data privacy, interactions with patients and health care professionals and related matters
Monitor new and revised laws and guidelines to ensure Amicus is in compliance with all applicable law and regulation and assist in building cross-functional policies and SOPs
Establish and manage relationships with, and the budget for, local counsel in various countries as necessary to support the business, including potential litigation
Build, develop and manage a best in class in-house legal function appropriate to the growing needs and risks of the business
Professional experience and qualifications

At least 10 years of corporate counsel experience in the Life Science industry
Fluent spoken and written English, including the ability to draft legal documents in English
Experience building a regional organization
Experience building, developing and ideally leading a legal department
