Job title:

Female Field Monitoring Officer

Job Description:

What you’ll be doing:

On a typical day, you’ll help support offenders by visiting their homes to fit and maintain electronic monitoring devices. Each shift will start and finish at your home address, meaning that your commute is cut down to nothing.

You’ll also be:

  • Calibrating and decommissioning monitoring equipment
  • Carrying out priority visits with empathy and understanding
  • Addressing incidents and liaising with the central office over issues or subject breaches
  • Travelling to new locations throughout your shift
  • Monitoring curfewed individuals to locate them within the boundaries of their property
  • Ensuring contract compliance is maintained
  • Attending court to give evidence (however, this is rare)

What we’re looking for:

We’re looking for empathetic, understanding individuals who are motivated to make an impact by helping others improve their lives. EMS welcomes a diverse range of applicants to serve our diverse clients and ensure that all of our clients receive respectful, safe treatment. Women, in particular, are strongly encouraged to apply since it is a legal requirement that only women officers are authorised to fit an electronic monitoring device to another woman, and it is essential that we have enough officers to safeguard individuals from any background.

Having listened to feedback from female applicants, our team understand the potential concerns women might have about this role. However, all applicants can rest assured that all our officers are protected by excellent safeguarding policies. You can read about the experience of two of our female applicants below:

“During my interview, we had discussed the job role in further detail, along with my concerns. I was put at ease instantly and had been advised of EMS’s strict policies and processes regarding the safety of their staff members, including Field Monitoring Officers.”

“My main worry about this job was visiting offenders and ex-prisoners in their homes. However, in my personal opinion and experience, 99% of the times when visiting subjects, they are absolutely fine, some even greet you with a smile. Most ex-prisoners you meet with jump for joy when you fit their tag, because they have been released from prison early and they are happy to be out in the community again. Other subjects would prefer the tag rather than a prison sentence. Every night is different, every subject is different, and every home is different.”

Resilience is key – our officers take on a variety of situations where a cool head and patience are essential. Our team come from a wide range of professions, from retail and customer service to military and law enforcement. And you don’t need to know everything already – we’ll give you comprehensive training, from classroom sessions to on the job learning, that will enable you to excel.

You’ll need to have:

  • Good physical fitness and mobility
  • Possession of a full UK Driving License with at least a year of driving experience (essential)
  • Willingness to work flexibly on a shift rota basis (we operate 24/7, 365 days a year, so you’ll work a range of shifts during the hours of 5 pm – 1 am)
  • Strong interpersonal, teamworking and listening skills
  • Experience working in a customer-facing role (e.g. retail, customer service)
  • Preferably, experience in security/judicial roles such as law enforcement, military, police, courts

About Capita Electronic Monitoring Service

Capita Electronic Monitoring Service is contracted by the Ministry of Justice to provide electronic monitoring services (including ‘tagging’) across England and Wales. Electronic monitoring technology is used to deter people from breaking their curfews and places a stronger emphasis on rehabilitation, helping to ensure public safety across the country, while addressing the growing concerns about overcrowding in prisons.

Our first-class training means that all our officers are fully prepared for the challenges they’ll face. As well as seven days of residential training and classroom sessions, new officers will work in the field with an experienced colleague for two weeks before they conduct a home visit by themselves. Your safety is our top priority – on top of your training, we have multiple measures to safeguard all of our officers. EMS conducts a risk assessment of each site visit to ensure that we prepare our people for every situation, dispatching multiple officers to one location if necessary. Furthermore, your personal safety device (with GPS) and access to a duty manager 24/7 ensures that you will have all the support you need, when you need it.

What’s in it for you?

  • A competitive basic salary of £20,390
  • 23 days’ holiday (rising to 27) with the opportunity to buy extra leave
  • The opportunity to take a paid day out of the office, volunteering for our charity partners or a cause of your choice
  • Company car (Including personal use)
  • Company matched pension, life assurance, a cycle2work scheme, 15 weeks’ fully paid maternity, adoption and shared parental leave, paternity pay of two weeks…and plenty more
  • Voluntary benefits designed to suit your lifestyle – from discounts on retail and socialising, to health & wellbeing, travel and technology
  • Access to our Employee Network Groups, which represent every strand of diversity and allow colleagues to connect and learn from each other on an open, inclusive platform

You’ll get the chance to follow your chosen career path anywhere in Capita. You’ll be joining a network of 63,000 experienced, innovative and dedicated individuals across multiple disciplines and sectors. There are countless opportunities to learn new skills and develop in your career, and we’ll provide the support you need to do just that. Our purpose is to create a better outcome for you.
