ACCOUNT DIRECTOR

Reports to: Director, Client Services

Purpose

  • Provide proactive direction of designated client accounts
  • Champion the needs of designated clients within the agency
  • Maximize the full potential and profitability of designated accounts
  • Mentor and help manage junior staff
  • Promote ApotheCom ScopeMedical within existing accounts and develop business opportunities within both existing and new accounts
  • Deputise as team leader in absence of Director, Client Services

 

Roles and responsibilities

  • Principal client contact within the agency
  • To champion the needs of the accounts for which they are responsible within the agency and maximize the full potential of these accounts
  • Responsible for the profitability of all projects on designated accounts
  • Responsible for working with the Director, Client Services in forecasting for designated accounts,  including accurate phasing
  • Ensure jobs are invoiced quickly and accurately
  • Provide clear direction for designated accounts
  • Fully understand clients’ marketing communication needs and where services can address these needs
  • Proactively recommend, develop and present strategic communication solutions to address clients’ marketing needs
  • Oversee all projects as necessary to ensure they meet the needs of the client
  • Approve all project estimates on designated accounts
  • Conduct regular meetings with account teams as appropriate
  • Manage staff allocation on designated accounts
  • Provide guidance and day-to-day training of Account Managers and Executives on designated accounts
  • Help encourage development of personnel within the team
  • Assist Director, Client Services in setting objectives for junior account handlers
  • Act as the liaison between junior staff and Director, Client Services
  • Drive the development of business within existing accounts
  • Sourcing and developing new business opportunities outside existing accounts
  • Play key role in developing and presenting new business pitches
  • Work with Director, Client Services on recruitment within the team
  • Ensure the Director, Client Services is fully informed of all major developments on designated accounts, including personnel issues
  • Adhere to all internal processes and ensure other team members do as well
  • Provide final review of all projects for strategy, flow, and consistency
  • Assist in training, development and mentorship of new/junior Client Services staff

Key Skills

  • Ability to rapidly establish strong rapport with new and existing clients
  • Good presentation skills
  • Solid understanding of all agency processes and scope of activities
  • Ability to take and give good briefs
  • Ability to work well under pressure
  • Clear understanding of the roles and responsibilities for all personnel within the agency
  • Good product knowledge on all relevant accounts and associated products
  • Strong report writing ability
  • Ability to develop and present project proposals
  • Developing management and leadership skills
  • Ability to assist Director, Client Services in developing, leading  and motivating team
  • Sound understanding of the principles of financial management
  • Proven man-management skills
  • Good understanding of the pharmaceutical industry and the role of the agency within this
  • Ability to lead a team and provide clear direction consistent with the needs of the client and the agency

Experience and qualifications

  • Degree in a relevant subject (e.g. life science)
  • At least three years agency or relevant client side/industry experience
  • Good project/team management skills
  • A good track record of effectively managing projects within an agency environment
  • Mentoring/training experience
  • A proven ability to develop and present recommendations and proposals to new and existing clients
  • Good track record of account management and a proven ability to initiate and complete projects without supervision
  • Strong client relations
  • Active (and successful!) participation in new business pitches
