What achievements should I add to my Marketing CV?

By Monster Contributor

As a marketer it is your job to market the features and benefits of the product or service you are responsible for – ‘Buy X and you will get Y’. And that’s exactly the same approach you must take when producing your CV.

Suppose you want to buy a new mobile phone and every shop along the high street is a mobile phone shop, which one would you go into?

Would it be the one that offers discounted line rental and a free handset or the one that offers the same as all others but with a free in-car charger and 500 free texts per month thrown into the bargain?

My guess is that you’ll opt for the latter. Why? Because the seller who won your business offered more in return for what you were prepared to pay.

So what makes you stand out from the crowd, what’s the extra USP that you have which makes you the most suitable person for promotion? Why are you so different to all the other candidates who are applying for the same jobs?

Perhaps you were instrumental in rebranding your client’s core product line and repositioning it in the marketplace, enabling it to capture a 10% share of the market?

Maybe the viral campaign that you implemented resulted in a 25% rise in online subscriptions?

Or is it possible that the customer relationship strategy that you devised, developed and implemented resulted in a 33% increase in customer renewals year-on-year, equating to a growth of £60,000?

Did your fundraising initiatives increase charitable donations or did you secure significant funding from a major corporate partner?

Employers are not looking for candidates who simply do what is expected of them in their job description, they look for those people who step up to the mark and make a real difference to the way things are done.

So think of as many instances during your career to date when your successes and achievements have won you the praise of your peers and the limelight has shone on you.

And remember to add a value to everything you claim you have done by quantifying your achievements in percentage or monetary terms.
